It’s the return of Mayfair Witches – the adaptation of the Anne Rice novel series of the same name, sister show to Interview with the Vampire and second entry in what AMC calls the “Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe” universe – and, while there are new pleasures to be found this season including a trip to Scotland and our first actual crossover with Interview with the Vampire, for the most part the show retains the same feel as the first season.
That is to say, while it’s nice to look at and has a few intriguing characters, the lore is confusing and the ongoing plot not very compelling. The end of the season teases a spinoff involving the best character of Season 1, Ciprien Grieve, played by Tongayi Chirisa, an agent of the mystical law-enforcement/intelligence agency, the Talamasca. This is doubly bad news, for his screentime is greatly reduced this season and also, with further spinoffs in the works, the Immortal Universe looks set to become as much a zombie flagship franchise for AMC as The Walking Dead has long since been.
